Today, Spanish is a global language with about 486 million native speakers, mainly in South, Central and North America and in Spain. Spanish is the official language of 20 countries. It is the second most spoken native language in the world. The Spanish language offers you the opportunity to communicate in many countries, not only to travel but also to work, meet friends or get to know your Spanish neighbours in Mallorca.
In Mallorca we speak Spanish and Catalan at schools and official places, and Mallorca’s dialect on the street and at home. The people of Mallorca really appreciate when foreigners speak Spanish, as language is a very important part of the culture. It allows you to truly get to know the Mallorcan people and their traditions.
I will also give you recommendations about our gastronomy, where to eat around Mallorca, what to visit in Palma and around the island. I’ll bring you closer to our traditions and how to enjoy them.
I offer both options. If you are short of time, with the online course you will not have to drive and will produce less carbon dioxide, as well as being able to learn comfortably from your home.
If you have enough time and prefer face-to-face courses, you can drive to Manacor, which is about 50 km from Palma. Manacor is the second largest town after Palma. I will send you the location once we have agreed to start the lessons. In winter, classes take place indoors with a good cup of coffee or hot tea. From spring onwards, on days with good weather, we will move to the terrace. This way we can enjoy the lessons surrounded by Mallorca’s nature with the first rays of sunshine, so long-awaited after the cold winter. This isn’t your typical language school: you will feel at home, as I teach in a country house away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I aim for a relaxed and trusting atmosphere to help you with your language learning. Whether you choose to take the lessons online or face-to-face, it is very important to me to provide a comfortable environment to make language acquisition easier.
If you start with private lessons, I will adapt your level. If you start with group lessons, you will take a written level test and a speaking test to ensure that you are at the correct level so you don’t get bored or feel lost.
No, I am not in favour of using a single book. A book can be used simply as a guide for the student, if he/she wishes. I use different resources in my lessons.
Not only will it help you professionally, but it will also be very useful when travelling. Also, did you know that knowing several languages helps you to learn more languages? I think that the more languages we know, the more cultures we get to know and the more they open doors to other worlds. Languages help us personally and professionally.
It depends on the individual. Each person is different and some people prefer one hour a week, so that they can work on vocabulary or what they have seen during the lesson. Others prefer two or more hours a week to be able to practise speaking. Private or small group lessons make it easier to lose the fear of talking in a different language.
There is no fixed number of hours to get you to speak a language – it all depends on the time you have, and your willingness and desire to learn. It’s important to spend some time every day reading or listening to music in Spanish. Whenever you have the opportunity to use the language, do it, and don’t be afraid – you will learn faster than you think. Use the language whenever you can, the important thing is to keep it alive. We can quickly unlearn a language — even our own — by not using it.
For further information about the courses, do not hesitate to contact me. I hope to see you soon in one of my lessons in Mallorca!
